Eligibility Criteria
Persons applying for a Council Rates concession must meet all of the following criteria on the due date of their first (or only) council rates notice of the financial year for which they are applying:
- applicant or spouse/domestic partner (if applicable) must hold a South Australian State Seniors Card (or be eligible and applying now);
and
- in the case of a married couple or domestic partnership, if only one partner holds a South Australian State Seniors Card, the other person must not be in paid employment that exceeds 20 hours per week; and
- the property for which the concession is sought must be the applicant's principal place of residence; and
- applicant or spouse/domestic partner (if applicable) must be the registered ratepayer of the property for which they are applying.
Joint owners (other than a married couple or domestic partnership) will only be eligible for a proportion of the concession equal to their ownership status of the property.
If the concession is not shown on your council rates notice and you meet the above eligibility criteria, please complete an application form and forward it to RevenueSA.
If you are in receipt of a Commonwealth allowance through Centrelink or Department of Veterans Affairs, you will need to apply for a concession on your council rates with Department for Communities and Social Inclusion.
